How Life Impacts Our Work

By nurturing a culture that prioritises wellness, leaders can create an environment where individuals can flourish. This involves providing resources, support systems, and promoting open dialogues about mental health. A leader's role extends beyond the achievement of organisational goals; it includes caring for the holistic well-being of their team members. By prioritising wellness, leaders can foster a positive and thriving work environment where individuals can perform at their best.

Difficult Conversations and why they are a must

One of the common barriers to resolving business issues such as underperformance, poor attendance or unethical behaviour is the avoidance of having difficult conversations. It is human nature for us to avoid what makes us feel uncomfortable and without anyone holding us to account it is easy to do nothing when faced with an awkward conversation.

Parents and Leadership… Why it’s important to support parents in leadership positions

Women have been fighting for equality for many years and whilst we have made significant progress in the last century, we are still not entirely equal in the business world. Women are more likely to fail as entrepreneurs, never become a CEO of a business and fall away from a budding career after having children. Why is it that women still fall short of their male counterparts despite having proven themselves as valuable contributors in business? Women are still not paid equally or offered promotions ahead of their male colleagues. The key factor in women not receiving equal pay is due to a woman’s choice to leave the workforce at some stage to have a family.

Flexible work arrangements - Should we, or shouldn't we?

The year 2020 will be one to remember with many monumental changes happening within our society. The unleashing of a global pandemic has made us all self-reflect on the things that matter most in our lives and rethink who we want to be for ourselves and for others. It is no wonder that the way we choose to work would be significantly questioned after being forced to work from home for several weeks/months.

Why are policies and procedures important?

It can seem like an unnecessary expense for a small business.  A tedious task that takes up valuable time and effort and doesn’t appear to offer any real advantage in business. “I only have 4 staff and they all perform well, and business is running smoothly. Why do I need to bother?” My response to these types of statements is; “It isn’t a problem until it becomes a problem.” I agree that there are far more valuable tasks a business owner should commit their time to which is why outsourcing is the way to go. If you want it done quickly and painlessly, then engage an expert.

Performance Management – the way forward

Performance reviews have historically been a once a year activity which is highly structured, time consuming and often uncomfortable for both parties. The result is that this important business process is avoided or is not performed effectively. Why do people hate performance review meetings? Simple, nobody likes to be put under a microscope to be analysed and judged. Questions such as; On a scale from 1-10 how effective is the employee’s communication? These types of questions can make employees feel uncomfortable and inadequate as a person if graded low, rather than generating what is needed, confidence and improved communication.
